All businesses need the same services and utilities to survive and thrive – plumbing and plumbers, electricity and electricians, builders and so on. You may well have these services to hand in cases of emergency, especially if you live in a big city, but it does no harm to pre-empt problems, especially of the electrical variety. If you can step in to avoid a problem, you’ll have less downtime and more productivity.
Here are the five signs your business needs an electrician before trouble strikes…
Your premises are older
If your building is a few decades old, your wiring and electrics may need an overhaul. Look out for damp areas, especially in kitchens and bathrooms, or other areas of dilapidation or poor repair. If the walls are damp, what’s the wiring like? Get in an electrician to find out and do the necessary work to keep things safe.
Your circuits are tripping more
This may mean there’s some loose wiring or a frequent overload problem, so have your electrician look over the entire system to find the source of the problem.
You have a lot of new equipment
You’re expanding (yay!) so you’ve bought new appliances, or you’ve updated a lot of your equipment. This could mean, especially if you’re in an older building, that you need new outlets, sockets and wiring.
You’re renovating your building
If you’re remodelling, then it’s a good time to get in an electrician to review your wiring, as well as to make any changes to its arrangement. You may be making structural changes to the space as well, so it’s doubly important to make sure everything’s safe.
You’re feeling suspicious about some outlets
If some sockets are feeling warm, or there’s the occasional funny electrical smell, or there’s any discolouration on the sockets and plugs, you need to get in a professional as soon as possible as there’s a few potential problems that could be causing this.
