Mark is an electrical fitter/mechanic with over 30 years experience. He commenced an apprenticeship with Email in Sydney in 1975. By the end of his apprenticeship he was in charge of electrical maintenance in the water meter manufacturing division. He left Email for a position as a maintenance electrician with Myer, Miranda Fair, in Sydney but was soon seeking wider horizons. In 1980, Mark was employed as shift electrician with BHP on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, which is where he and Keryn met. Upon Mark’s return from Groote in 1982, Mark had a variety of jobs. He worked as a concrete pre-stressor on the Chatswood Shopping Centre; as a processor in a carpet factory; and as a driver and later manager of a chemical factory. In 1986 Mark was offered a position as Operations Manager for an electrical contracting firm in Papua New Guinea where he gained valuable management experience and broadened his knowledge of the electrical contracting sector. In 1988, Mark and Keryn returned to Australia and in 1990 Accord Electrical was born. Since then the business has steadily grown into the flourishing small enterprise it is today. Mark loves to play “oldies” 6 a side soccer at Ballinger Park on a Wednesday night and plays beach volleyball on Tuesdays at Kawana Indoor Sports Centre. Keryn Jones is an administrator with many years experience. Her first job was as an audit clerk for Myer, Melbourne, and she has held a variety of administrative and bookkeeping positions over the years. She has also held a few slightly less conventional positions including a stint as an jillaroo in Julia Creek, in outback Queensland and a heavy plant operator for BHP on Groote Eylandt, where she met Mark in 1980. Keryn gained further valuable management experience when she and Mark moved to Papua New Guinea in 1986. There she worked as an office manager for an engineering company employing around 150 staff. Recently, Keryn completed a Bachelor of Social Science degree at the University of The Sunshine Coast www.usc.edu.au/ and now works part-time as campaign co-ordinator for the Sunshine Coast Environment Council (SCEC) www.scec.org.au. and still keeps a hand in at Accord Electrical. She has been a board member of Link In Association, a community organisation that provides support for people with disabilities, for 5 years Keryn also plays beach volleyball with Mark.
